Held & Healed is more than a home for rescued animals.
We want the sanctuary to be a place where people come together — to care for animals and the land, learn from one another, share their skills, make new friendships, and be part of creating something meaningful.

Bokashi Composting Workshop
September 10, 2026 | 9:00–11:30 AM
Part of the Held & Healed Composting & Regenerative Waste Series
Join us at Held & Healed Animal Sanctuary for a hands-on introduction to Bokashi, a simple fermentation method that transforms everyday food scraps—including meat, dairy, and cooked foods—into a valuable resource for building healthier soil.
Learn how fermentation works, what you can compost, how to maintain your system at home, and what happens to the material once fermentation is complete.
This is the first workshop in our regenerative composting series. What we create here will carry forward into our upcoming Biochar and Manure Composting workshops, where we'll explore how these different methods can work together to turn waste into resources and build living soil.
Together, we'll prepare a Bokashi system,
UPCOMING EVENT
Community Volunteer Day + Volunteer Program Launch
Come spend the morning with us at Held & Healed Animal as we work, connect, and build community around something we all care about.
Saturday, September 19
With more than 120 rescued animals and eight acres to care for and restore,
there are so many ways to be part of it — and you don't need any special experience to belong here.
-
Help with grooming, cleaning, enrichment and other animal-care projects. Experienced with horses or farm animals? Even better! Veterinary professionals and vet students are especially welcome
-
Carpenters, welders, electricians, plumbers, contractors, fence builders, mechanics and handy people — we have plenty of projects that could use your skills. If you have tools or equipment you can bring, let us know!
-
Help plant, weed, mulch, care for native habitat and restore the land.
-
Get involved with composting, soil building and the regenerative systems we're developing throughout the sanctuary.
-
Gardening, photography, organizing, events, fundraising, art, social media — or simply a willingness to roll up your sleeves and help — there's a place for you.
No experience? Come anyway. This is about showing up, learning together and discovering how each of us can contribute.
This Community Volunteer Day also marks the launch of our long-term volunteer program. Our hope is to grow a community of people who return, get to know one another and our animals, share knowledge and skills, and become part of the life of the sanctuary.
AN EVENING OF RESCUE, REGENERATION & COMMUNITY

Spend a beautiful evening among our rescued animals while enjoying a seasonal farm-to-table dinner, live music, a special screening of our short documentary, and an exciting live auction featuring unique experiences and one-of-a-kind items—all in support of Held & Healed.
Saturday, October 17, 2026 | 5pm to 9pm
Space is limited. We hope you'll join us for an evening of connection, hope, and purpose.
As daylight softens and the sanctuary transitions into evening, you'll have the rare opportunity to step behind our gates, meet some of the animals who call this place home, connect with our community, and experience firsthand how healing animals and restoring the land go hand in hand.
